Reflections of the George/Jackson Family Reunion
Two patriarchs: According to the US Census, Wyatt George Sr. born in Georgia about 1830s and died in Arkansas about 1920s and Peter Jackson Sr. born in Alabama about 1830 and died, Monroe, LA. about 1883. Both men were farmers, and their wives were house keepers.
The George/Jackson family reunion started out as a birthday celebration in October 1969 for Mary Ellen Jackson George. She married Arthur George, in Magnola, Arkansas. Relatives would come from Louisiana, Texas, and California for the celebration. This was a yearly celebration until her death in November 1987. Mary Ellen Jackson George’s grandchildren got together and decided to start meeting in the last week in June because many with children had school in the month of October. The grandchildren included: Jessie George, Glenda George-Alexander, Gracie Beard-Tucker, Jimmy Beard, and Zeophus George-Parker.
So thus, the George/Jackson Family Reunion became the name, and it was to happen every 2 years. There was another marriage of Stella George who married Clinton Jackson Jr.
